This award is available to licensed amateurs and SWLs on the submission of satisfactory proof of having heard/worked amateur stations in the North American continent using a data mode.

The award is available in three classes as follows:

  1. Class 1 for confirmed working/hearing 40 DXCC countries in the continent of North America.
  2. Class 2 for confirmed working/hearing 30 DXCC countries in the continent of North America.
  3. Class 3 for confirmed working/hearing 15 DXCC countries in the continent of North America.

Stations can enter at any class, and can update to a higher class at a later date if entering at Class 2 or 3.

The following endorsements are available:

  • Mixed Bands or Single Bands, eg ALL 28MHz.
  • Mixed Data Modes or Single Mode, eg ALL RTTY.

The following mode endorsements are available:

  • ALL RTTY and ALL PSK-31.
  • Other Data Modes may be added in the future.

If a station is awarded a certificate, for example, Class 3 with all contacts on 14MHz RTTY, then any additional contacts submitted for the higher classes must be on the same band and/or mode. The only exceptions will be mixed band and/or mode certificates.

On a successful application, stations will receive with their certificate the appropriate Class, Band and Mode stickers. On a subsequent update the appropriate new Class sticker will be received.

Contacts on all nine HF bands are eligible.

Application

Applications for this award may be made by any of the following methods:

  1. Submission of QSL cards for the countries being claimed.  These will be returned after checking. Alternatively, photostats of these QSL cards are acceptable. Such copies must clearly show callsigns, and establish beyond any doubt that a data mode contact took place.

  2. Submission of a check-list containing the log extracts for the appropriate contacts. Such information should include date, time, band, mode and callsign, etc. This list together with the relevant QSL cards should be examined by the Awards Manager of a national radio society, or by TWO officers of a recognised radio club/society.  The signed check list and appropriate fee should then be forwarded.

  3. Claims can also be accepted based on a contest log submitted for any BARTG contest. The claim should be made at the same time as the contest log is submit-ted to the BARTG Contest Manager.

Note: For the purpose of establishing whether or not a country has country status, and in which continent that country lies, the ARRL DXCC list will be the determinant.

For further details on application and contact address of the Awards Manager, please see the How to Apply page.
