  Andrew Thomas, M5AEX

Andrew writes:

I have been licensed since August 1972 as G8GNI, but not particularly active until moving to my present QTH in the '90's. I am also licensed as M5AEX (October 1999) and am currently active on HF using SSB, RTTY and PSK31 and VHF using SSB. I have dabbled with SSTV, amateur satellites and weather satellites but prefer data modes overall. I have achieved WAC and DXCC on HF RTTY and SSB and 30 countries / 100 squares confirmed on 6 metres SSB.

My main station transceiver is an Icom 756 Pro, which I run into either a homebrew four-band 'fan' dipole or a two-band Butternut vertical.

I have been a committee member (since 1999) of the Milton Keynes Amateur Radio Society, which is based at Bletchley Park, the World War II 'code-breaking' centre, QSL manager for the Bletchley Park Special Event station - GB2BP and RSGB QSL Bureau Sub-Manager for the G4G series of call-signs. I regularly teach the Foundation Licence course.

I work for a large market research company, undertaking public policy research - mainly for government departments. I have three children, all living at home with me, of whom the middle one - Leo - is licensed as M3DXL
