While focussing mainly on RTTY and PSK, BARTG seeks to stimulate interest in, and raise awareness of, other data modes, such as MFSK and MT63, and promote new developments in amateur data communications.

BARTG is the only group in the UK dedicated to all forms of data communications. The group is affiliated to the Radio Society of Great Britain, and through the RSGB to the International Amateur Radio Union.
